Best fish and chips by far if you're looking for quality fish shop look no further than Downey's quality chios not scrappy ones like some crisp batter cooked to perfection 👌 😋

I've been here a few times now and the food is always lovely. Some fish and chips shops tend to be greasy or not taste very fresh, but the food here has always been lovely. The prices are very reasonable and they have a good selection on the menu as well as some healthier alternatives and the portions are always generous. The staff here are lovely and although the fish is cooked to order you're not waiting around for ages. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Visited today and the lady serving was so pleasant and chatty, nice to see staff taking the time to chat with customers. A very friendly place and great food....even if she didn't know what scrapings (batter) was😉

Outstanding quality fish! I never get chips but the fish was superb 👌drove past the place loads and thought one day Al try their food! Today was the day and a was well impressed! The staff there a lovely too! As Arnie Schwartz would say (I'll be back)🤟

I paid a visit here on Sunday when I had missed the chance to go to my regular Downeys in Seaham, I’m so glad I did, the fryer gave a warm and friendly welcome as if I’d been going for years. The food had the same brilliant quality which was nice to see that the consistency is kept on top of. Well worth a visit.

Usually only eat at Coleman's when South of the Tyne, but couldn't be bothered to travel that far. Nothing beats Coleman's IMO, but this was a pretty good substitute! Mushy peas lacked flavour. Fish and chips were banging, though!

These are the very best Fish & Chips I have ever had and I am 70years old, so I have eaten plenty. Living side by side with the North Sea should always provide good Fish & Chips but this is not always so and I have had both good and bad. Now I have eaten Downey's Fish & Chips in their melt in the mouth batter with chips cut in a rectangular cross section making them tender and chunky is unknown elsewhere. The staff; and return every week are so helpful, friendy and take great pride in their product and service. This is our one-stop shop for Fish & Chips, that we look forward to every week. Thank you to you all.

Downey's are the best traditional fish & chip shops in Sunderland in my opinion. I can remember a fish shop at Thorney Close years ago that used to be called Denis and downey's reminds me of that. I go to the Barnes one and I can't fault the food at all I've never had anything bad from there. Highly recommend anybody giving it a try. The staff are all very pleasant always

Havent had proper fish and chips for years and the Barnes Downeys was absolutely delicious. Recommend this chippy. Staff are very pleasant and chatty. Will go there again, 😊😋🥰

Our go to fishy! Normally go to seaham downeys! Live in Penshaw but this is worth the drive to get it! Absolutely delicious. Best chippy we've ever tried in North east. All downeys chippys are amazing.
